What Was Your First or Worst Job?

Julie A. LaVan, LaVan Law

I have inevitably had this desire to keep busy since the day I was born. My mother constantly reminds me of my inability to relax and sit still. I can hear her words, “Julie, would you just relax.” The same still holds true today and honestly, I “can’t help myself.” I love to keep busy, have a career and work for interesting organizations and charitable committees. As a result of my inability to “sit still,” I held many jobs and had many unique experiences.

To reiterate, the question asked is “what was your worst job?” I can truthfully answer by saying each opportunity has presented an added opportunity and I have learned from each endeavor. So, I have worked at a pizza shop, an ice cream shop, as a soccer coach, snowboard instructor, bartender, financial analyst, financial advisor and lastly, an attorney. Let’s just say, the least rewarding job was working at an ice cream shop. I believe I gained about 10 pounds that summer while I sat on a bench eating ice cream every day. Arguably, that was my best job. However, as a matter of fact, I love my job today and I enjoy practicing law. I have gained more knowledge than I could have expected.
